Overview

Habitational Specialist: this senior level role will serve as an underwriting specialist on Property and Casualty exposures for Habitational accounts. They will provide consultative support for the department for more complex issues and lead the efforts to develop and grow a profitable book of business.

Responsibilities

  • Meeting profitability and written premium goals for as determined by the department.
  • Staying current and knowledgeable on trends and market conditions impacting habitational risks.
  • Serving as a mentor and coach for underwriters on the team, answering coverage questions, handling account authority referrals, and training new team members.
  • Working with the Product Development team to implement new pricing and underwriting guidelines.
  • Reviewing claim activity for the class of business to understand any impact on profitability.
  • Participating in and contributing to key projects.

Qualifications

Candidates must have:

  • At least 5 years of Commercial underwriting experience in Property and Liability or equivalent with at least 3 years of Commercial middle-market underwriting experience preferred

  • Minimum 3 years of habitational underwriting

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Fluent technical computer skills such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

  • The ability to work as a team player

  • The ability to effectively multi-task and demonstrate excellent time management skills while exhibiting good judgment

  • Must be willing to travel at least once a quarter to assigned underwriting territory with Field Representative to develop agency relationships
