Responsibilities

The Head of Compliance will be responsible for ensuring the Company’s operations are conducted in accordance with the complex legal & regulatory requirements applicable to the property and casualty insurance industry.  Reporting to the General Counsel, the Head of Compliance will have the following responsibilities:

  • Build and lead a modern, best-in-class Compliance Department for a growing $2 billion insurance company, focusing on commercial insurance across multiple lines of business.
  • Responsible for developing, formalizing, and maintaining written policies and procedures to keep the business in compliance with both insurance and general corporate laws and regulations.
  • Ensure adequate controls are in place to prevent, detect, and resolve compliance breaches.
  • Engage with business unit leaders to ensure regulatory compliance across all areas of the business, including Underwriting, Claims, Distribution, Product, Premium Audit, Customer Service, and more.
  • Responsible for leading company-wide compliance strategies in a federated model, with compliance subject matter experts embedded within business units.
  • Monitor, review, research, and interpret applicable state regulations and regulatory changes; including communication and implementation of required regulatory changes.
  • Engage with regulators and respond to regulatory inquiries, investigations, and market conduct issues in coordination with business units and the Legal department.
  • Design and implement compliance training programs for employees of the company.
  • Bring a business-first mindset to partner with company leaders and enable action through a pragmatic and collaborative approach.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in a compliance role at a primary insurance company
  • Experience leading and managing teams of people
  • Experience building compliance policies and procedures
  • Deep knowledge of commercial insurance laws and regulations, including those addressing product design, underwriting, policy termination, marketing and distribution, agency regulation, licensing, privacy, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, anti-discrimination, claims handling, OFAC, AML
  • Experience with and established relationships with insurance regulators
  • Deep knowledge of industry standards, customs and practices relating to compliance
  • Law degree or equivalent experience
