Responsibilities

We are seeking a VP-level Actuary who is interested in playing a leading role in GUARD’s transformation into a top tier commercial insurer.  Your work in our dynamic, fast-paced atmosphere will have a direct impact on our results. This position will be responsible for leading our work comp and commercial auto pricing teams and will help form product strategies that produce profitable growth.   The role will work closely with reserving and underwriting leaders and will report directly to GUARD’s chief actuary.  You will lead a team of actuarial analysts responsible for maintaining and enhancing pricing programs that generate market leading risk segmentation. 

 

Projects may include application of data science methods in pricing, the development of dynamic monitoring tools, and programming of more advanced pricing methods and indications.  The candidate should have strong technical and analytical skills that can be put to use when needed, be able to communicate effectively across technical and non-technical audiences and be able to lead and influence business partners.  The candidate must be self-motivated, work independently, and have strong analytical and communication skills.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Initiate, organize, and lead the completion of all actuarial analyses related to the ratemaking, underwriting, and portfolio management of GUARD’s WC and Auto products
  • Collaborate with Underwriting, Claims, and Product teams to develop products and manage profitability
  • Engage with Reserving to drive alignment on profit assessments and deepen our understanding of the drivers of results
  • Partner with the data science team to develop innovative rating solutions for the Commercial Auto and Workers Comp books
  • Set team direction and simultaneously manage multiple assignments independently with a focus on timeliness and accuracy
  • Lead and develop a growing team, supporting their personal and professional development
  • Clearly communicate analyses and results to business partners, the Chief Actuary, the CEO, and other Senior Leaders

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience of eight or more years in actuarial roles within commercial insurance, with Commercial Auto and WC experience strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate results and strategic drivers to senior management while fostering partnerships with key stakeholders
  • Experience collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data and model results
  • Results-oriented with a proven ability to multitask and adapt priorities as needed
  • Experience managing analysts and setting strategic direction for a team
  • Proficiency in VBA, SQL, or R preferred
  • ACAS or FCAS certification required

Salary Range:

$180,000.00- $300,000.00. In addition to base compensation, this role may be eligible for a performance-based bonus, subject to individual and company performance.  

 

The successful candidate is expected to work in one of our offices 3 days per week and also be available for travel as required.

The annual base salary range posted represents a broad range of salaries around the U.S. and is subject to many factors including but not limited to credentials, education, experience, geographic location, job responsibilities, performance, skills and/or training.
