Responsibilities

We are seeking an Associate Actuary - Reserving who is interested in playing a leading role as we transform GUARD into a top-tier commercial insurer. In our agile and fast-paced environment, your work will have a direct impact on results. This position will report to the VP – Reserving Actuary and will play a key role as we advance our reserving process and estimation methods across property and casualty lines of business. This role will apply a deep knowledge of actuarial reserving methods and help to continue to refine the reserving process while working with business partners in Claims and Product to share results and insights. The successful candidate will be responsible for completing quarterly and annual reserving analyses and leading various projects aimed at quantifying reserve uncertainty. Projects may include the application of data science methods, the development of dynamic monitoring tools, and programming of more advanced reserving methods. The candidate must be self-motivated, work independently, and possess strong analytical and communication skills.

 

  • Lead the completion of actuarial work in support of reserving analyses, including delegation to others.
  • Collaborate with business partners, such as Claims and Product, to understand the historical and future claims experience across the portfolio.
  • Engage with Pricing to align on profit assessments and deepen the understanding of the drivers of results.
  • Support the Appointed Actuary on the Statement of Actuarial Opinion and related NAIC and financial reporting requirements.
  • Manage multiple assignments independently with a focus on timeliness and accuracy.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation is maintained to allow another actuarial staff member to understand and recreate the work product.
  • Proactively suggest and implement methods and tools to help solve existing limitations with data and analysis, including industry research.
  • Communicate results, including insights and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Share deep perspectives with other team members and support the development of others through project mentorship and peer review.

Qualifications

  • Five or more years of actuarial experience with at least two years of commercial lines reserving experience.
  • ACAS or FCAS required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, or another field with a rigorous mathematics background.
  • Exceptional attention to detail to ensure accuracy and reliability of results.
  • Ability to effectively communicate results and assumptions.
  • Experience collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data and model results.
  • Results-oriented with the ability to multi-task and adjust priorities when necessary.
  • Experience managing or mentoring less experienced team members preferred.
  • Knowledge of Arius Enterprise, VBA, SQL, Python, and R preferred.

Salary Range:

$120,000.00 - $180,000.00

In addition to base compensation, this role may be eligible for a performance-based bonus, subject to individual and company performance. The annual base salary range posted represents a broad range of salaries around the U.S. and is subject to many factors including but not limited to credentials, education, experience, geographic location, job responsibilities, performance, skills, and/or training.
