Intern

Berkshire Hathaway GUARD is currently seeking a full-time internship in our Workers’ Compensation Complex Claims Unit. As an intern in the Complex Claims Unit, you will gain first-hand experience supporting the resolution of high-severity and complex workers’ compensation claims. You will work alongside senior claims adjusters to understand how large or litigated claims are evaluated, managed, and resolved.

We are looking for a candidate to join our summer cohort in our home office in Wilkes-Barre, PA from June 2, 2025, through Aug 8, 2025, with the opportunity to continue part-time during the Fall and Spring semesters.  

This is a hybrid role, with the employee required to be in the office 3 days per week and the flexibility to work remotely on the other days. In-person collaboration days are typically scheduled but may vary depending on the team needs.

In this position, you will provide support for high exposure and litigated work injury claims including:

• Assisting complex team adjusters with providing a superior level of customer service, compliance, and assisting in workflow processing.
• Reviewing claims to determine timely investigations, accurate payments, and appropriate referrals to our legal, subrogation, fraud, and underwriting units. 
• Auditing the service levels on phone calls, reviewing voicemail alerts for timely return calls. 
• Processing subpoenas, data alerts, physician panel alerts, and ensuring proper coding.

• Strong analytical and organizational skills
• Strong reading and writing skills for summarizing medical reports and legal updates.
• The ideal candidate is inquisitive and able to think critically
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite is preferred but not required.
