Responsibilities

Why This Role

This is an opportunity to join a specialized Major Case Unit handling some of the most complex and high‑exposure claims in the industry. You’ll work alongside experienced legal and claims professionals and have the autonomy to make meaningful decisions on high‑stakes matters.

What You’ll Do

  • Independently manage large‑loss and catastrophic CGL claims, with a strong emphasis on New York Labor Law (Sections 200, 240, 241).
  • Lead thorough investigations of complex losses, identifying coverage issues, liability defenses, and potential risk transfer opportunities.
  • Analyze construction contracts, indemnification agreements, and insurance policies to assess priority of coverage and pursue contractual risk transfer.
  • Partner closely with panel defense counsel, developing and executing effective litigation strategies from inception through resolution.
  • Evaluate liability, damages, and exposure by reviewing pleadings, expert reports, medical records, deposition transcripts, and other key evidence.
  • Proactively negotiate and resolve claims through settlement, mediation, or trial strategy, balancing legal risk and business objectives.
  • Establish, monitor, and adjust indemnity and expense reserves in accordance with best practices and financial accuracy standards.
  • Conduct interviews of insureds, claimants, witnesses, and experts to support defensible claim outcomes.
  • Ensure timely and accurate payment of indemnity and expense invoices.
  • Attend hearings, mediations, trials, and settlement conferences as needed.

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For

  • 10+ years of experience handling commercial general liability (CGL) and/or BOP liability claims.
  • 5+ years of direct experience adjusting New York Labor Law claims with exposures of $500,000+, including litigated matters.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Juris Doctor (JD) and active attorney license strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret insurance coverage, analyze policy language, and assess complex contractual relationships.
  • Strong understanding of litigation strategy, motion practice, and defense of construction‑related claims in New York.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence outcomes with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and comfortable managing a complex, high‑severity caseload.
  • Proficiency with claims management systems and standard business technology.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for hearings, mediations, trials, and conferences.
