Responsibilities

Are you passionate about turning business strategy into scalable data solutions? At Berkshire Hathaway GUARD Insurance Companies, we’re looking for a Data Modeler with a strong business modeling focus to help shape the future of our data architecture and drive innovation in the property and casualty insurance industry.

 

In this role, you’ll work closely with domain owners and data product managers to understand business goals, value hypotheses, and use cases. Your work will directly support the development of effective and efficient data models that power our data products and enable strategic decision-making.

 

Key Responsibilities:

    • Analyze business use cases to understand goals and value drivers.
    • Create conceptual models using Meta Models, Ontologies, and Knowledge Graphs to represent domain structures.
    • Develop logical and physical data models that support KPIs and product requirements.
    • Ensure models meet output needs including SQL endpoints, dashboards, reports, and APIs.
    • Support data cataloging, source-to-target mapping, and data quality rule setup for critical data elements.
    • Optimize cloud databases (e.g., Delta Lake, OneLake) for performance and scalability.
    • Collaborate with governance teams to define global modeling standards and best practices.
    • Work cross-functionally with data engineers, analysts, and other teams to implement and maintain robust data models.

Salary Range

$110,000.00 - $160,000.00 USD per year

The annual base salary range posted represents a broad range of salaries around the U.S. and is subject to many factors including but not limited to credentials, education, experience, geographic location, job responsibilities, performance, skills and/or training.

The successful candidate is expected to work in one of our offices 3 days per week and also be available for travel as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • At least 6 years of experience in data modeling within the property and casualty insurance industry.
  • Proficiency in SQL, Python, UML, and modern data modeling tools.
  • Strong analytical skills and a track record of building scalable, efficient data models.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and cloud-based data platforms.
  • Familiarity with data modeling concepts, database technologies, and insurance industry data systems.
  • Ability to clearly convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and lead cross-functional collaboration.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
