Responsibilities

The VP of Compliance will be responsible for coordinating with stakeholders across GUARD and translating compliance plan goals into executable testing and monitoring, reporting results, and engaging in remediation and value-add partnerships. This dynamic and flexible role will be a resource to leadership and day-to-day business staff. Reporting to the Head of Compliance, the VP will have the following responsibilities:

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Assist with operationalizing a modern, best-in-class Compliance Department, focusing on commercial insurance across multiple lines of business.
  • In partnership with business unit leaders, develop written policies and procedures to keep the business in compliance with insurance-specific and -related laws and regulations.
  • Work with other control functions and business units to develop and monitor appropriate controls to prevent, detect, and resolve compliance breaches.
  • Engage collaboratively with business unit leaders to ensure regulatory compliance across all areas of the business, including Underwriting, Claims, Distribution, Product, Premium Audit, Customer Service, and more.
  • Monitor, review, research, and assist with implementation of applicable state regulatory changes.
  • Engage with regulators and respond to regulatory inquiries, investigations, and market conduct issues in coordination with business units and the broader Legal & Compliance department.
  • Design and implement compliance training programs for employees of the company.
  • Bring a business-first mindset to partner with company leaders and enable action through a pragmatic and collaborative approach

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in a compliance role at a national insurance company
  • Experience leading, managing, and developing teams of people, both directly and as part of a highly-matrixed organization
  • Experience building compliance policies, procedures, training, risk assessments, and periodic plans
  • Experience planning, executing, reporting on, and following up on compliance reviews
  • Deep knowledge of commercial insurance laws and regulations, including those addressing product design, underwriting, policy termination, marketing and distribution, agency regulation, licensing, privacy, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, anti-discrimination, claims handling, OFAC, AML
  • Experience dealing with regulators as part of financial and market conduct examinations is a plus
  • Deep knowledge of industry standards, customs, and practices relating to compliance

Salary Range:

$140,000-$280,000 USD

 

The successful candidate is expected to work in one of our offices 3 days per week and also be available for travel as required.

 

The annual base salary range posted represents a broad range of salaries around the U.S. and is subject to many factors including but not limited to credentials, education, experience, geographic location, job responsibilities, performance, skills and/or training.

Work is generally performed in professional office environments. The individual in this position routinely uses standard office equipment (e.g. computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines, etc.) The noise level in these work environments is usually moderate.
