Responsibilities

Berkshire Hathaway GUARD Insurance Companies is seeking a Commercial Liability Adjuster (JD required) to handle Commercial General Liability (CGL) claims, including litigated files.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Investigate claims and identify coverage and liability issues
  • Review facts, policy language, and claim documentation to support claim decisions
  • Evaluate pleadings, reports, medical records, and other evidence to assess damages and set reserves
  • Work with defense counsel to manage litigated claims, including mediation and trial preparation
  • Negotiate claim resolution within authority
  • Process indemnity and expense payments
  • Interview insureds, claimants, and witnesses
  • Maintain claim file documentation, including coverage positions and claim activity
  • Ensure claims are handled in accordance with company guidelines and regulatory requirements

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) required
  • Experience handling Commercial General Liability (CGL) claims, including litigated claims (minimum 2+ years)
  • Experience analyzing liability, coverage, and claim exposure
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple claims and priorities
  • Experience using claims systems and standard business tools
  • Licensing Requirement: Candidates must hold an active adjuster license or be willing and able to obtain and maintain all required state licenses. The company will support the licensing process, including training and compliance with ongoing continuing education requirements.

 

Salary $100,000 - $160,000 

In accordance with applicable pay transparency laws, this range represents a goodfaith estimate. Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, credentials, geographic location, and other considerations permitted by law.

 

This role may be based out of any of our office locations, including:

New York, NY; Parsippany, NJ; Conshohocken, PA; Wilkes‑Barre, PA; Alpharetta, GA; Rosemont, IL; Plano, TX; Scottsdale, AZ; and Rancho Cordova, CA.
