Responsibilities

We are seeking a Juris Doctor‑licensed attorney to join our Major Case Unit, handling complex, high‑exposure New York Labor Law (NYLL) claims. This role is designed for an attorney who wants to apply litigation, coverage, and contractual analysis skills in a strategic claims environment—without the demands of traditional law‑firm practice.

About the Role

In this senior‑level position, you will manage high‑severity, litigated commercial general liability claims arising from construction accidents and Labor Law §§ 200, 240, and 241. You will act as the legal and strategic owner of assigned matters, partnering closely with defense counsel and internal stakeholders to drive defensible outcomes.

This role offers autonomy, authority, and intellectual challenge, with a focus on legal analysis, exposure evaluation, and resolution strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary claims authority on complex, high‑exposure New York Labor Law matters, including losses that may exceed primary policy limits.
  • Perform in‑depth legal analysis of liability, damages, and defenses, applying statutory and case‑law knowledge to claim strategy.
  • Analyze insurance policies, endorsements, construction contracts, and indemnification agreements to assess coverage, priority of coverage, and risk transfer opportunities.
  • Direct and collaborate with panel defense counsel, including strategy development, motion evaluation, settlement posture, and trial preparation.
  • Review and evaluate pleadings, deposition transcripts, expert reports, medical records, and discovery materials to assess exposure and resolution options.
  • Lead and participate in mediations, settlement conferences, and strategic negotiations.
  • Establish, evaluate, and adjust indemnity and expense reserves based on legal exposure and litigation developments.
  • Prepare clear, well‑reasoned written evaluations and recommendations for internal leadership and business partners.
  • Attend hearings, mediations, trials, and litigation‑related conferences as needed.

Qualifications

We’re looking for a seasoned professional who is confident managing complex NY Labor Law matters with exposure over $500,000. The ideal candidate has:

  • Education: JD Required, licensed attorney preferred
  • 10+ years of experience handling Commercial General Liability (CGL) and BOP liability claims
  • 5+ years specializing in New York Labor Law with significant loss exposure
  • Strong coverage knowledge and the ability to interpret insurance policies and construction contracts
  • Demonstrated capability in risk transfer analysis and prioritizing coverage
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational ability and comfort with claims technology
  • Excellent time‑management and multi‑tasking skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with counsel, experts, and internal partners

Salary $140,000 - $200,000 + bonus

In accordance with applicable pay transparency laws, this range represents a good‐faith estimate. Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, credentials, geographic location, and other considerations permitted by law.
